OAKWOOD, Okla. (AP) -- A gun battle Tuesday morning in Dewey County involving a deputy sheriff, a Seiling Police officer and a drug suspect has left the suspect dead and the officer wounded.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says the gunfight followed a police chase, which ended north of Oakwood in eastern Dewey County.
OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown says the officer and two deputies were waiting for the man to drive through the area and tried to stop him, but he drove away and into a wheat field and tried to run.
Brown says the man then stopped and fought with police officer Clay Sander and was able to get Sander's gun and shoot the officer in the knee.
Brown says one of the deputies then opened fire and killed the suspect.
The names of the deputy and the dead man haven't been released.
