UNDATED (AP) _ Mississippi State and West Virginia have become the first two teams to advance to next week's NIT semifinals at Madison Square Garden.
Jamont Gordon had 16 points and 7 assists as the Bulldogs trounced Florida State 86-71. Charles Rhodes had 14 points for Mississippi State, which had 15 steals and forced 25 turnovers.
The Mountaineers reached the semifinals with a 71-66 win over North Carolina State. Frank Young scored 25 points, including 14 straight for the Mountaineers in the 2nd half. He set a single-season school record with his first 3-pointer and later drained three more in the last 6-minutes to help the Mountaineers reach the NIT semis for the first time since 1981.
WVU and Mississippi State will square off next Tuesday.
