UNDATED (AP) The defending champs are among the first-round winners in the NCAA women's basketball tournament.

Maryland has advanced in the Dayton Regional by thumping Harvard 89-65. The Terrapins are joined in the second round by top seed and ACC rival North Carolina, which cruised to a 95-38 rout of Prairie View.

#1 seeds Duke crushed Holy Cross 81-44. Tennessee, another #1 seed, mauled Drake 76-37. Connecticut, another 1st seed, clobbered Maryland Baltimore County, 82-33.

North Carolina State opened with an 84-82 rout of Robert Morris. The Wolfpack next face Baylor, which beat Chattanooga 68-55.

Notre Dame was a 62-59 winner over Cal, Vanderbilt whipped Delaware State 62-47 and Mississippi beat TCU 88-74. Bowling Green topped Oklahoma State, 70-66. Wisconsin-Green Bay beat New Mexico 59-52 for its 26th straight win. Michigan State eliminated Delaware 69-58. Pittsburgh beat James Madison 71-61. Rutgers clobbered East Carolina 77-34. And in the final game of the night, Temple edged Nebraska 64-61.
