A Tulsa man accused of having child pornography seems ready to plead guilty to the charges. Federal court documents obtained by the News On 6 indicate David Abston is following the advice of his attorney and desires to plead guilty. In light of that, Abston has a hearing in federal court Thursday morning. His trial had been scheduled for later this month.
Abston faces federal charges of possessing and distributing child pornography. David Abston lives in Tulsa but used to own a skating rink in Broken Arrow.
His case gained attention after he skipped his first federal court hearing and was on the run for a day before being arrested at a Bixby movie theatre. He has been in custody ever since.
After his federal charges were made public, a number of boys came forward, accusing Abston of molesting them. Tulsa Police detectives turned that case over to the Tulsa County District Attorney before Christmas, but no charges have been filed. The DA's office tells the News On 6, it wants to be thorough since there are so many potential victims and charges to consider. The DA office is meeting with Tulsa Police detectives Thursday to discuss the case.
