Turnpike Accident Kills Two

WELLSTON, Okla. (AP) -- A tractor-trailer crashed along the Turner Turnpike Tuesday evening and then exploded, killing two people and shutting down the interstate for more than two hours.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the accident happened about 8:20 p.m.Tuesday near Wellston when the eastbound tractor trailer crossed a concrete barrier, landed on its side and burst into flames. The victims' names weren't immediately released.

Traffic was closed in both directions between Interstate 35 and Exit 158 on the Turner Turnpike for nearly two-and-a-half hours.

Crews from the Oklahoma City Fire Department were called to put out a fire caused by the explosion.
