Several wildfires kept fire departments busy across eastern and central Oklahoma on Monday. One blaze spread across fields just north of Liberty. SkyNews 6 carried Liberty Fire Chief Lee Johnson above the fire so he could direct crews to the hot spots. Fire crews on the ground did have some trouble with soft spots in the ground and several firefighting vehicles got stuck.
Johnson says several bales of hay that were burned last week started the fire. Crews thought the bales were completely extinguished, but the winds re-ignited them on Monday.
In Sapulpa, a fire that started in the garage of a home spread to the house then moved outside, sparking a grass fire. It didn't take long for Sapulpa firefighters to get it under control.
Central Oklahoma also saw a pretty good-sized wildfire. Eight fire departments worked to fight a fire between Oklahoma City and Guthrie. Investigators believe that a cigarette started that fire.
