OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ 5 Oklahoma elementary schools each received a $10,000 grant to improve campus security, state officials announced Friday.

The Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security said the grants were awarded to Calvin Elementary School in Calvin, Orvis Risner Elementary in Edmond, Richmond Elementary in Stillwater, and Park and Remington elementary schools in Tulsa.

Oklahoma Homeland Security Director Kerry Pettingill said the agency's mission to prevent and recover from disasters was expanded this year to include elementary schools.

The education grant program is a collaborative effort between the Office of Homeland Security and state Department of Education.
