NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma is looking for a new quarterback after its wild Fiesta Bowl finish last season and adds Michigan standout Keith Nichol as part of its incoming class on college football's signing day.
Nichol, a two-time Associated Press player of the year in Michigan, enrolled at OU last month and will join a quarterback competition against junior Joey Halzle and redshirt freshman Sam Bradford.
OU coach Bob Stoops said Wednesday the Sooners expect a great competition for the starting job from the three quarterbacks as they vie to replace Paul Thompson.
Nichol was one of only 20 players in the signing class, and it could have been even smaller if four scholarships hadn't come open late in the process.
The Sooners addressed shortages at offensive line and defensive end, but didn't bring in anyone at running back because of two returnees who fared well last season in reserve roles -- Allen Patrick and Chris Brown.
