CARNEY, Okla. (AP) -- The FBI in Oklahoma says a man who kidnapped his former stepdaughter in Kansas and released her in Oklahoma has died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
FBI spokesman Gary Johnson says Tony Province died Tuesday morning at an Oklahoma City hospital.
Police say he kidnapped 35-year-old Annetta Jaros Monday in Wichita, Kansas, after tying up his ex-wife and her daughter. The two were able to untie themselves and call police.
Province and Jaros were later spotted by authorities near the Lincoln County town of Carney northeast of Oklahoma City.
Province released Jaros unharmed after the two were spotted by an FBI tactical team. Province escaped but was found by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol later Monday afternoon in a heavily wooded area with the gunshot wound.
