While the roads are improving, conditions are still dangerous for emergency workers who spend time alongside busy roadways.
News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan reports the rash of accidents often caused by careless driving created another hazard for the emergency workers who have to respond to them.
Early Thursday morning, two Owasso Police officers were hurt trying to get out of the way of an out of control semi. They were stopped at an accident scene and their cars were hit by people who couldn't stop on the slick roads. The officers are going to be OK, only one was taken to a hospital.
Owasso Assistant Police Chief Scott Chambless says they believe drivers overestimate their ability to stop. “There's a misconception now with people with front wheel drive vehicles that do well on the snow and four wheel drive vehicles, but those cars have the same braking ability as any vehicle does.â€
Chambless says they would like to see drivers on the highway give them a little more room to work.
