OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Former state representative Kevin Calvey is heading to Iraq.
The captain in the Oklahoma National Guard learned this week that he will be deployed to Baghdad.
The Del City Republican joined the Guard in 2003 and is in the Judge Advocate General's Corps.
After an unsuccessful bid for Congress last year, Calvey volunteered for active duty, seeking assignment in Iraq.
Calvey says he'll leave Saturday for Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and will be sent to Iraq a week later.
He will leave behind his newlywed bride, whom he married less than a month ago.
