NEW YORK (AP) _ Oklahoma City native Bobby Murcer hopes to return to the New York Yankees' broadcast booth this baseball season.
Murcer is recovering from surgery on December 28th to remove a malignant brain tumor. He became a Yankees broadcaster after his retirement from playing in 1983.
Murcer says on a posting on the Web sites of the Yankees and their broadcast network that he appreciates all the good wishes that have come his way.
He says that prayers are doing more for his recovery than any medicine ever could and that he's doing everything he can to make it back to the broadcast booth for opening day.
Murcer was diagnosed with a brain tumor on Christmas Eve after having headaches. The five-time All-Star played in the major leagues from 1965 to 1983 and has won three Emmy Awards for live sports coverage.
