STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- The National Science Foundation has awarded a $700,000 grant to three researchers -- including an Oklahoma State University professor.
The team is studying emergency responses following the September 11th, 2001, terror attacks and the April 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
Gary Webb, an associate professor of sociology at Oklahoma State, is part of the study team. A researcher with Oklahoma State's Center for the Study of Disasters and Extreme Events, Webb says the rescue and recovery efforts after the two terror attacks challenged first responders in ways that exceeded standard disaster management plans.
He says emergency responses after the attacks were effectively conducted because first responders found solutions to unforeseeable problems.
