LAKE PLACID, Fla. (AP) Florida authorities say a state trooper was gunned down Friday while attempting to make a traffic stop.

It happened in central Florida at Lake Placid, about 100 miles northwest of West Palm Beach. The officer was identified as Nick Sottile Senior, a veteran officer whose son is also a highway patrol officer.

A search is under way for two suspects.
