GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) _ Ohio State and Florida are set to usher in a new era in college football, one where it doesn't take a bowl to produce a champion.

The top-ranked Buckeyes and second-ranked Gators meet tonight in Glendale, Arizona, in the first Bowl Championship Series national title game.

The new showcase event is a one versus two matchup that Gators coach Urban Meyer is calling ``the Super Bowl of college football.''

Ohio State is trying for its first national title since 2002 and its fifth overall, which would match USC and Miami for the fourth-most in major college football.

The Buckeyes have been ranked Number One since the pre-season. If they win tonight, they'll have victories this season over three Number Two teams -- Texas, Michigan and Florida.
