Anti-smoking programs are credited for a dramatic decrease in youth smoking in Tulsa County.
The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports cigarette smoking fell 63.6 percent among Tulsa County middle-school students and 47.3 percent among high school students from 1999 to 2005.
The Tulsa City-County Health Department credits the decrease to state legislation restricting public smoking, an increase in the tobacco tax, and a state program recently launched in Tulsa.
