MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) Dwindling donations threaten the future of the Murrow Indian Children's Home, which 22 American Indian children call home.
The home has survived several rough financial stretches during the 31 years its director, Joan Brown, has served there. But none have concerned Brown as much as the current one.
Brown says at the current pace, the home near Muskogee may close by March 1st. She says the home's losing between $10,000 and $12,000 a month, and it can't continue to operate with those kinds of losses.
The home's origins date to the Reverend JS Murrow, a Baptist missionary who founded the Murrow Orphans Home in the turbulent years following the Civil War.
