The holiday rush is in full swing, with just a few more days before Christmas. So, will that package you sent or gift you ordered arrive on time? News on 6 reporter Heather Lewin introduces us to a man whose job it is to make sure your packages gets there in time for the holidays.
You have to hustle to keep up with David Heinrichs. A 20-year veteran of UPS, he's on the go all year round, but it's during the holiday season he faces his biggest challenge, when his delivery load doubles.
"It's a huge difference," Heinrichs said. "Every house on the street gets a package."
On December 20th, UPS's biggest day, Heinrichs delivered more than 500 boxes, double his usual amount.
"As a young driver, when I used to look at my truck, I was overwhelmed. And it's still overwhelming, but if I take it one stop at a time, you work it down to where you go okay, I can get this done," said Heinrichs.
Nothing stands in his way when making a delivery, although a few dogs have given it their best shot.
But no bites this year, so he considers himself lucky.
Despite the extra load around Christmas, Heinrichs still works with a smile on his face.
"I'm an outdoors person and I like, I like to get up and move. I'm not much of an indoor office type person, I like to get up, it keeps me moving, a lot of great scenery, I meet a lot of nice people and it suits my personality," said Heinrichs. "Have a Merry Christmas." Last Wednesday was UPS's busiest day of the year. The company delivered more than 21 million packages worldwide.
