TULSA, Okla. (AP) The number of suicides in Oklahoma tend to increase in December and January.

But mental health therapists say there is no true connection between suicide and holiday-related depression.

Bryan Blankenship with the Associated Center for Therapy in Tulsa says requests for therapy and treatment actually go down during the holidays and increase during spring.

And a report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows suicide rates nationwide go down during the winter and are highest in the springs.

Suicide is the eleventh leading cause of death in the United States and the eighth leading cause of death for men.
