LANDOVER, Md. (AP) Eagles rookie linebacker Omar Gaither, in the right spot at the right time, snagged the first interception. Michael Lewis got the second, cradling the ball after Williams James' perfectly timed hit and returning it 84 yards for a touchdown.

Never mind that the defense let Ladell Betts run all over it and that an 18-point lead nearly disappeared in the 4th quarter. Philadelphia made big plays when it mattered Sunday and remained a solid playoff contender with a 21-19 victory over the Washington Redskins.

Jeff Garcia went 15-23 for 164 yards with threw 2 touchdown passes in another solid outing to improve to 2-1 as the starter since Donovan McNabb's season-ending injury. Brian Westbrook had 88 yards rushing and 38 receiving for the Eagles (7-6), who have swept the Redskins (4-9) four times in the last five years.

Washington has lost four of five.

Westbrook ended the day 5 yards shy of his first 1,000-yard rushing season.

Betts, who signed a five-year, $11 million contract extension Friday, topped last week's career-high 155-yard game with a 171-yard performance on 33 carries. Betts, playing regularly following a season-ending injury to Clinton Portis, had 100 yards before the 2-minute warning of the 1st half.
