OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma City council votes to name three streets in the city's Bricktown area after Vince Gill, Charlie Christian and the Flaming Lips, all musicians with city roots.
Country star Gill and jazz great Christian are Oklahoma City natives and had actual streets in the burgeoning entertainment and restaurant district named in their honor yesterday.
The Flaming Lips, a legendary underground rock band that began in Oklahoma City in 1983, had an alley designated in their honor.
Lead singer Wayne Coyne thinks that is somewhat appropriate, as the Flaming Lips never were mainstream.
Coyne says fans have told him they plan to steal the signs designating "Flaming Lips Alley" when they are put up.
