CAMERON, Okla. (AP) A 19-year-old Tulsa man drown Friday when a canoe in which he was riding overturned in swift water on the Poteau River in LeFlore County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the canoe overturned about 4:30 p.m., and Joshua Lantz was pronounced dead at the scene after his body was recovered from the river almost 3-and-a-half hours later.

The canoe had two other passengers, 20-year-old Jonathan Calvery of Cameron and 27-year-old Ornowar Singh of Tulsa. The OHP says the three men put the canoe in the flood waters of the river behind a residence in Cameron.

Authorities say Calvery and Singh both were wearing life jackets, and Lantz was able to grab his out of the canoe as it overturned and put it on.

The OHP says Singh made it to shore and went for help, and when he returned, Calvery was hanging onto a tree. Singh was not injured and Calvery was treated and released at a hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
