The McGuinness Fighting Irish (13-0) look to make it a perfect season when they battle Grove (10-3) in the 4A State Championship game on Thursday
Round one was a shutout for Oklahoma City Bishop McGuinness; the Fighting Irish blanked Deer Creek, 46-0.
Round two, McGuinness won by 21 against Broken Bow, 34-13.
In the semi-finals it was No. 1 against No. 2, the battle of the unbeaten's, McGuinness vs. Wagoner.
McGuinness scored on an early Wagoner turnover, the Irish owned the first half 21-0. Wagoner got on the board late in the 2nd making the score 21-6. The Bulldogs never got close to McGuinness, final score 28-12.
The Grove Ridgerunners have cruised to the finals. In round one, Grove doubled up on Idabel, 14-7.
The Ridgerunners faced the Glenpool Warriors in the quarterfinals. Grove trailed the entire game, until the 4th quarter. The Ridgerunners scored 21 points in the final quarter to defeat Glenpool 35-29.
Semi-final action had Grove up against Poteau. Poteau built a 22-12 lead in the 2nd quarter following 75 and 5 yard touchdowns. The Ridgerunners battled back and were down by only 1 in the final minute. In the play of the game Grove's Darius Hopper set up a hook and ladder play, George Maymi nabbed a 7 yard pass then pitched it to Colton Gehrke for a gain of 31 yards. With 37 second left on the clock Hooper hit Corey Davenport for a 12 yard TD. Grove stuns Poteau 30-25.
Class 4A Championship game pits McGuinness against Grove. Kick off is 7:30 Thursday night in Broken Arrow.
