The Mayes County Sheriff's Office saved the life of a murder suspect Monday. They say 42 year old Joey Martinez called them earlier Monday.
Martinez told them he'd killed his ex-wife and her boyfriend and was going to kill himself. He even told them where to find the bodies. Deputies found 46 year old Lori Martinez and 43 year old Vern Troyer, both shot to death, in a trailer park west of Locust Grove. But they didn't find the suspect.
Sheriff’s Office Captain Pat Knowles called him on his cell phone and he told her he was sitting in a field with a 22-rifle, about to commit suicide. She talked to him for more than an hour and convinced him to put down the gun and give up peacefully.
Martinez is now in the Mayes County jail.
