Two little girls are recovering from a dog attack. The animal is now in Animal Control custody, but the nightmare for these Tulsa sisters is far from over. They survived an attack that's sure to leave scars, both physical and emotional.

News on 6 anchor Tami Marler says Dorothy Pedro has lots of grandkids. She says not a single one could ever be replaced, but she came perilously close to losing two when a dog from a neighbor's house came wandering into her front yard where her grandchildren were playing.

By the time she could get outside, Pedro says the dog had a hold of 1- year-old Hannah, dragging her around like a rag doll.

"And beating her head against the ground. And my granddaughter Taylor ran over there and started hitting the dog, kicking it, anything she could to get the dog off of her sister," said Pedro.

8-year-old Taylor didn't think twice about saving her baby sister. Her battle scars show the extent of her bravery.

"When it released her sister it ran and grabbed her by the legs when she was trying to get away from it," said Pedro. "Hannah, she received seven stitches across her left breast, which, they had to sew it back on. And the back part over here, you can see where the teeth was hittin' and scrapin'. If someone hadn't been fast enough, which was her, the baby would've been dead. Or tore apart."

The News on 6 did contact Tulsa Police, but this just happened Saturday afternoon so they don't yet have the incident report and couldn't comment.

Both Hannah and Taylor were transported to a Tulsa hospital where they were treated and released.

Dorothy Pedro says the dog struggled with animal control officers as they hauled it away. She says she hopes it's put to sleep.
