OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Internal Revenue Service says it has 924 unclaimed tax refund checks for Oklahomans that total nearly $633,000.
IRS spokesman David Stell says the checks were returned as undeliverable. He says in most cases the taxpayer wrote an incorrect or unreadable address on the return.
Stell says the refunds are held indefinitely but the problem is usually cleared up when the taxpayer files a subsequent return.
Taxpayers can track down a missing refund check by using the "Where's My Refund?" feature at www.IRS.gov or calling 800-829-1954. Taxpayers will need their Social Security number, filing status and the refund amount shown on the 2005 tax return.
