OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Republican state Representative Lance Cargill is the choice of his party to become Speaker of the House.

The GOP is the majority party in the House with 56 members and they nominated Cargill after meeting in caucus.

The formal speaker's election will be during a one-day organizational meeting of all 101 House members on January 2nd. The regular session begins in February.
