OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Democratic Governor Brad Henry says he's overwhelmed by the size of his victory over veteran Republican Congressman Ernest Istook in the race for governor.

Henry had nearly 70 percent of the vote in early returns from across the state.

Henry says he believes voters appreciate the direction his administration is leading the state and that they rejected negative campaigning.

Henry ran as a consensus-builder who works well with Democrats and Republicans and pointed to a record $627-million tax cut he signed.

Istook gave up a seemingly safe seat in Congress to challenge the popular Henry but says he has no regrets about making the race because he's been unhappy with the trends in Congress.
