Cherokee Nation Donates To NE Oklahoma Fire Departments

Several rural Oklahoma fire departments are getting financial help from the Cherokee Nation. <br/><br/>The tribe handed out $300,000 Thursday to 129 departments in 14 northeastern Oklahoma counties.

Several rural Oklahoma fire departments are getting financial help from the Cherokee Nation.

The tribe handed out $300,000 Thursday to 129 departments in 14 northeastern Oklahoma counties. The money will help buy and repair tools and equipment.

Todd Owens with the Owens & Company Fire Service: "This money is very important to all the rural fire departments especially with all the wild land fires we've been having. It's very taxing on the equipment and the fuel costs. The breaking down of the equipment. This money helps us get our equipment and cover fuel costs."

The Cherokee Nation also donated $100,000 to Boys and Girls Clubs in the Cherokee Nation. The tribe says the donations are the least it can do to help Cherokee's and non-Cherokee's living in their nation.
