MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- The former city manager of Roland pleaded guilty Friday to a federal money laundering charge.

The US attorney's office says David Redden stole nearly $300,000 from the city by inflating purchase orders used to acquire supplies from a major supplier and getting cash back from the business.

Redden was fired from his $80,000-a-year job as city manager in the spring of 2006, more than three years after the scam began.

Redden, who had been city manager since 1988, could receive up to 20 years, but sentencing guidelines call for about three years in this case. He will be sentenced later this year.
