OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- FBI Director Robert Mueller makes a surprise visit to Oklahoma City.

Mueller told reporters yesterday that his agency has stepped up public corruption investigations since the September 11th, 2001 terrorists attacks and is pursuing current probes with no thought of the upcoming elections.

He declined to address questions on specific investigations, such as the congressional page scandal that led to Florida Congressman Mark Foley entering alcohol treatment after disclosure he had made sexually implicit text messages to teenage male pages.

The director also noted that the FBI prioritized its national security mission after 9-11.

Oklahoma City was the site of the country's worse domestic terrorist act in 1995 when a federal building was blown up, killing 168 people.

Timothy McVeigh was executed for his role and co-conspirator Terry Nichols was given a life term, but criticism of how prosecutors handled the case by former Attorney General John Ashcroft another authors on the subject abound.

Mueller said it was wrong for the authors to say federal authorities botched the case.
