NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Injured Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson is being named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award given each year to the nation's top collegiate player.

Peterson is out 6 to 8 weeks with a broken collarbone but Maxwell Club vice president Mark Wolper says the club believes he deserves to be on the list of the top players in college football.

Peterson is one of 15 semifinalists for the award. Three finalists will be chosen later and the winner will be announced December 7, 2006.
