CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) The University of Charleston has agreed to build a new field and facilities for the women's softball team to settle a complaint that the school violated federal law by favoring its baseball team.
The Division II school says it plans to construct a new home for the softball team by 2008.
Ex-softball player Stephanie Kuhn filed the complaint in May with the federal Office of Civil Rights.
The Title Nine complaint said the softball team plays at a dilapidated city owned field with no scoreboard, dugouts, lights or locker room, while the baseball team plays at Appalachian Power Park.
Under the agreement with the Office of Civil Rights, the new softball field will have comparable facilities to those provided for baseball.
