EUFAULA, Okla. (AP) -- A McIntosh County man is being ordered to stand trial for first-degree murder in the shooting death of Eufaula City Councilman Larry Nichols.

Richard Lopez is accused of killing Nichols in January 2004 during what police say was an apparent robbery attempt.

Lopez was charged this past May after authorities say an informant reported that he said he killed Nichols during a botched robbery.

Nichols was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head when a fellow church member checked on him after Nichols failed to show up for Sunday Mass.
