STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma State freshman Perrish Cox is named as the Big 12 Conference's special teams player of the week.
The defensive back from Waco, Texas, returned the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown in the Cowboys' 52-10 rout of Missouri State on Saturday.
It was the first kickoff return for a touchdown by an OSU player since October 2001, when Chris Massey accomplished the feat against Texas.
Cox joined Barry Sanders as the only players in school history to return the first kickoff of the season for a touchdown. Sanders did so twice, in 1987 and 1988.
Cox also returned 3 punts for 72 yards and intercepted a pass, returning it 21 yards.
