OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Cherokee Nation is commemorating the 1839 signing of the tribal constitution during the 54th annual Cherokee National Holiday this weekend in Tahlequah.

The three-day event that began Friday and will include over 60 events including sporting events, a powwow, arts and crafts and many other events.

Organizers say they expect the event to attract nearly 100,000 people.

Cherokee Chief Chad Smith says the cooler temperatures and lower gas prices are a great reason for people to attend.
