After 2 years in limbo, development plans for the east side of downtown Tulsa are full speed ahead again.

A Washington DC company called Global Development Partners has stepped in. They're proposing retail space, office, residential and a new baseball park for the Tulsa Drillers.

News on 6 business reporter Steve Berg says the plans are in full swing, because the ballpark could be the linchpin for the project.

The company's website advertises it as the East End, complete with an animated fly-through of what looks to be an ambitious project. 3 hotels, 600 residential units and 600,000 square feet of retail and office space and most conspicuously, an 8,000 seat baseball stadium.

The News on 6 tried to contact Tulsa Drillers owner Chuck Lamson, but he was busy in meetings. Spokespeople for the developers though say the two sides are close to a deal to move the team. If that does happen, Global would have a solid anchor to their development.

As people probably remember, there have been many false stars on developing the east side of downtown Tulsa. But developers say what makes this deal different is that they actually have property under contract, 28 acres worth. More than enough they say to accommodate all their current plans.

They'd also like to develop another 6 acres of adjacent property, including where the News on 6 sits, but that part is more uncertain.

The developer is hoping to finalize those contracts sometime in the fall. If everything goes as planned, Global says the project would be done in the spring of 2009.
