ENID, Okla. (AP) -- Enid officials are attacking their mosquito problem from scratch.

Public Works Director Jim McClain says mowing crews are going after grass in interior parts of the city.

McClain says shorter grass will dry more quickly, leaving no place for mosquito larvae.

He says Enid has received so much rain in the last two weeks that habitats have formed in inaccessible areas.

Areas with standing water will be treated with a floating sustained-release larvicide for long-term control of mosquito and psychodid fly larvae.

McClain says a few days of dry weather should solve the problem because of a mosquito's short life span.

Enid normally doesn't have a mosquito problem and has no fogging equipment.
