A Tulsa city councilor announces his campaign for mayor of Tulsa. Councilor Chris Medlock says he's going to run against Mayor Bill LaFortune in the Republican primary for mayor.
News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan says the election won't happen until after Christmas, but city councilor Chris Medlock beat the rush by announcing Wednesday that he is running.
Chris Medlock has been discussing the option for weeks and said part of his incentive to run was the assurance that someone with similar politics might replace him on the city council.
Rick Westcott, who helped Medlock turn back the recall campaign, also announced Wednesday, he's running for Medlock's city council seat.
Medlock said he would, if elected, immediately plan to hire a city manager to run the day to day operations of the city, and he would focus on looking out for Tulsa.
Part of his plan is to encourage Tulsans to not vote for another round of the "4 to Fix the County" sales tax - so the city could replace it with its own sales tax to fund police and fire.
