TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Police in Tulsa fear Hispanics are increasingly becoming robbery targets because of a perception that they carry large amounts of cash.
Sergeant Kim Presley says last weekend was the fourth in a row that saw increased violence against Hispanics.
Police think several groups of criminals are behind the robberies and the shooting death of 29-year-old Jose R Bravo.
Presley says police think some Hispanics don't trust a bank to keep their money, so they carry it with them. She also says some Hispanics are afraid to call police or don't know how to report a crime.
She says illegal aliens won't be deported just because they report a crime and encouraged victims to come forward.
Presley says the department uses a national service that will connect a Spanish-speaking victim on 911 to a Spanish-speaking operator.
