An area teenager's brush with death has inspired her to give the gift of life. Dozens of teenagers rolled up their sleeves this weekend to help re-stock the Tulsa area blood supply, which has dipped pretty low this summer.

One Locust Grove teenager knows just how important it is to have blood on the shelves. Last summer, Megan Ballou was in a serious traffic accident. She lost her left leg and was in the hospital for a month as a result and now she's giving back to the system that gave so much to her. "The fact that I received 18 units last summer and I feel like it’s a way to pay back what I took from the blood supply last summer."

The Oklahoma Blood Institute says it’s especially important to give blood during the summer, when the blood supply usually takes a hit.
