Combine the premise of makeover television shows like "While You Were Out" or "Trading Spaces" with the dream of all little girls to have a bedroom of their own and you have perhaps the good news story of the day.
News on 6 reporter Rick Wells went to west Tulsa Wednesday to watch four students from Metro Christian Academy make a little girl's dream come true.
Elizabeth Allbritton is 9 and she's getting a new bedroom. Carolyn Bannister is supervising the project and she's showing Morgan Archer the joys of spackling, because they are getting ready to paint. "We're gonna take her room and paint it pink and have new bedding and curtains and a canopy and do all the foo foo stuff little girls love."
This is not a "While You Were Out" kind of big surprise, Elizabeth knows she's getting a bedroom make over she just doesn't know the details. So she's helping a little outside. “I just want it to be new."
In the bedroom, Morgan Archer and Olivia Penix are pinking up the walls, while outside, Haley Beard and Katie Bannister are spray painting bedroom furniture. Rick Wells: "What's the cool part of this?" Haley Beard: "We get to help a family, that's one of the coolest parts." But it also counts toward their 100 hour community service requirement for graduation at Metro Christian.
They want to give Elizabeth a girl's bedroom. Because of persistent medical problems, her parents can't do this work for her, so the girls are and that's cool too. In the afternoon there were some finishing touches, lanterns to hang and other small touches here and there.
Elizabeth was pleased with what she saw and the students should be proud as well. Nice job ladies
