Medi Flight adds a new medical helicopter to its fleet

A new high-tech helicopter has taken to the skies over the Sooner state. It specializes in the care of children and pregnant women. Medi Flight of Oklahoma is part of the OU Medical Center.

It is Oklahoma's only full-service helicopter dedicated to pediatric patients and their moms. The new chopper has a special paint job which features childrenâ€™s' faces. More importantly, it's equipped with loads of lifesaving technology.

Medi Flight director Marvin McLellan: "Our specialized helicopter is now equipped with "isolate" which provides a controlled environment for the newborn babies. We have fetal monitoring for the high-risk maternal patients. We can monitor mom's baby while she's being transported and detect any subtle changes and be able to care for those changes before itâ€™s too late."

Since Medi Flight started in 1980, it's flown more than 3.5-million miles and cared for more than 30,000 patients.
