FORT SUPPLY, Okla. (AP) -- A Minnesota company and The Oklahoman will participate in a prison work program.
The Oklahoma Board of Corrections board approved service partnerships with Jacobs Trading Company of Plymouth, Minnesota and the Oklahoma City newspaper Thursday.
The Jacobs Trading Company will pay $5.15 to $5.50 an hour for inmates at the Eddie Warrior Correctional Center to repackage items for sale at Dollar General and other discount stores. About 15 to 20 inmates will be employed at first with a target roster of 30-32 inmates.
The Oklahoman will pay four inmates at Dick Conner Correctional Center in Hominy to refurbish newspaper vending machines.
About 25 machines will be refurbished each month to start, and the company will pay $50 for each machine. The agency goal is to pay for up to 400 machines a month from The Oklahoman and other partners.
