OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The roads in Oklahoma City and Tulsa are rated among the roughest urban roads in the nation by a national transportation research group.
The Road Information Program, or TRIP, says the Oklahoma City metro area has the tenth roughest urban roads among the 70 urban areas surveyed. The group says Tulsa's roads are the 18th roughest.
TRIP says 47 percent of Oklahoma City's roads and 36 percent of Tulsa's are substandard _ and the poor conditions are costing car owners.
TRIP says Oklahoma City drivers pay an average of 636-dollars extra each year for auto repairs, fuel and tires because of the roads. The extra cost in Tulsa is 573-dollars a year.
TRIP's survey is based on the roughness of major metropolitan roads including interstates, freeways and other critical road routes. The survey does not include all city streets.
