A Tulsa businesswoman is making a name for herself. The big business Yvonne Hovell is doing at East Tulsa Dodge has earned her national recognition.

News on 6 anchor Terry Hood shows us why. Yvonne Hovell is one of only two people in Oklahoma to be recognized for being among the nation's leading African American business owners. The list was published in the latest issue of Black Enterprise magazine. Hovell's East Tulsa Dodge near 46th and Memorial ranks 84th on the list of American's top 100 black-owned auto dealerships.

Hovell's been an entrepreneur for 30 years, but she's only been in the car business since 1998. Still, she's managed to revive failing dealerships, with her latest success story in Tulsa. "It's like you're doing double-time. When everyone else has been in the industry for 10, 15, 20 years and it becomes second nature to them, business was about the only thing I was comfortable with and what I had to become familiar with was the automotive side of this business.”

She sure is selling a lot and she's a minority even within the minority. Less than a handful of women made the magazine's top 100 list.
