A double murder suspect has been arrested in Tulsa. It happened Wednesday afternoon and now, Leroy Smith is in custody.
Smith is charged with killing two people at a north Tulsa hardware store last month. News on 6 reporter Ashli Sims says Tulsa Police got a tip that Smith was in a Tulsa motel near I-44 and Yale. They set up a sting operation and captured him after a short foot chase, without anyone getting hurt.
Smith has been on the run for close to a month after the murders of Zach Jones and Eddie Phenix at a hardware store on North Lewis.
Wednesday's arrest, was a joint effort between homicide detectives, the fugitive squad and the Special Investigations Division.
Earlier Wednesday, members of the Special Operations Team surrounded a house in north Tulsa after getting a tip that Smith was in town. Officers kept the house secured for hours then realized Smith had slipped out before officers got there.
Tulsa Police Sgt Kim Pressley: "he knows that we're looking for him. He knows that he has these warrants and he's running obviously effectively from us. So we're still looking for him and we will get him." And officers did just that.
LeRoy Smith is now behind bars.
