Tulsa Police say there are some steps to take to lessen your chances of being a victim.
Pat Calhoun is the Public Education Coordinator for the Tulsa Police Department. He says you can make your home more secure, simply by locking doors and windows. Inexpensive locks or even a mop handle can allow you to open a door or window a few inches, and won't let outsiders in.
He says it's also a good idea to trim shrubs and trees to eliminate hiding places. “If you have privacy fence, one thing you want to consider is that bad guys can hide behind privacy fences, where neighbors can't see it. Your trash cans lined up along the side of the house make excellent places for bad guys to hide.â€
Calhoun says the best defense is plenty of outdoor lighting, and a nosy neighbor.
