Tulsa International Airport has a new "wing". 3 years and $25-million in the making, the new security checkpoint is open for business.
News on 6 business reporter Steve Berg says the idea of added security can be kind of depressing, but it's resulted in something quite beautiful.
Many people say they notice the windows. Two-stories high, they give you a panoramic view of the whole tarmac and both concourses. Kids especially will like watching the planes taxi back and forth.
Several travelers the News on 6 talked to Tuesday said the security didn't seem any faster, but at least it feels less confining with all the light and space. Traveler Stuart Arnold: "The sun, you actually see the airport when you're coming in and that was pretty neat."
Mary Smith with the Tulsa International Airport: "When they took the wall down, it was like, oh my gosh, we've been back there for 3 years watching this thing come together and here it is and it's pretty awesome.â€
There are now 5 security lanes, instead of four. And again, it's all been moved to the middle of the airport, from the ends. They’re also adding 17 new shops and restaurants as well, some of which are already open, and others are coming later.
