OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Supreme Court has convened a new multicounty grand jury.
That's after the court rejected a challenge by Dallas businessman Gene Phillips. His relationship with former Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher was the focus of a previous grand jury investigation.
Justices ordered state Attorney General Drew Edmondson to respond to a motion filed by Phillips last week that challenged Edmondson's authority to impanel a grand jury.
Phillips' motion said the new grand jury may target him.
Edmondson says he knows of no legal basis for the challenge and says he won't let it distract from the grand jury's work.
Oklahoma County District Judge Bryan Dixon was appointed to preside over the grand jury.
